Seth, Brandon and Kevin, thank you guys for your guidance and advice. Your friendship and insights helped get us here and we will always be “Mako Monsters” at heart. The first time I got to “coach”, Zach Leach asked me if I wanted to lead the class in the warm up. I jumped at the opportunity to do more and copied one of Zach’s warmups. Just leading the warm up alone was exhilarating. Soon after, the guys at Mako put me on the schedule and I started leading classes all on my own. As soon as I got home I told my wife, “I need to figure out how to do this all day, every day.” She laughed and in her usual stoic self simply said, “ok”. The night after coaching my very first full class was a sleepless one. My mind was awash with thoughts of coaching, what to say, what to read, how to get better and my body pumped with adrenaline.
That was more than three years ago. It has been a process in learning getting to this point. There have been highs, lows and everything in between. The process of opening a box is certainly much more difficult than simply getting your L1 and buying an affiliate. The lows have been the greatest learning opportunities. Thankfully, CrossFit has prepared us for dealing with unknown variables with focus, determination and grit. Each obstacle was a reminder of the treasure waiting on the other side. The process is the present that we receive every day. Each step forward brought us closer to being able to share our lives with the members of our community; you. We GET to be a part of you breaking down barriers in and out of the gym. Revolt will be our training grounds, where we will practice taking on the challenges that life undoubtedly will present.
We want to thank each and every one of you that has helped us get to this point. You believe in us the way we believe in you. We are blessed to be on this journey and to share it with you is the only way we would have it.
No Retreat, No Surrender.
