In 2009 I was training to compete in a ½ Ironman competition in Miami, FL. On a daily basis I would swim with the Masters team at Tamiami pool. Every day I paid my one dollar to enter the pool and try not to drown. On one occasion a stunning brunette was working in the admin office where I paid my entrance fee. Immediately I thought, “I need to ask her out”. It took me a few weeks to work up the courage. On one Friday afternoon, after a few false starts I walked up to her and asked if she had any plans that weekend. She stated that she was going to the dog park the next day. To which I replied, “what kind of dog do you have”? “I don’t have a dog” she said. I was as confused as you probably are reading this. Who goes to a dog park without a dog?
As it turned out, her dog had recently passed. She enjoyed going to the dog park to at least get to be around dogs and reminisce about her pooch. My curiosity was piqued. I immediately let her know that I just happened to have a 2-month-old puppy rat terrier named Gidget. I was quickly invited to join her at the dog park. Hook, line and sinker. I was in.
Over the next few months I got to know Kat better and fell in love with her. Luckily for me, she didn’t seem to realize that she was way out of my league and I didn’t bring it up. We’ve been married for more than 5 years now and it has been an amazing adventure every step of the way. As we get ready to embark on the greatest of our adventures I look back at this video of our wedding and realize once again, what a lucky man I am.
