Recently I was introduced to the emotional bank account each of us has. Every day each person we make contact with is an opportunity to fill their emotional bank account or empty it. The choice is ours and it is totally within our control.
Positive interactions are deposits into their bank account, negative interactions will be seen as withdrawals. Clearly being able to make deposits into the accounts of others should be our daily goal in all interactions.
How can we do that?
We can make DEPOSITS through honesty, keeping commitments and seeking to understand. Helping others through a hard time, taking the time to work with them when possible, and apologizing when you make mistakes to show that you care about them.
It is also good to know what could cause a withdrawal so we can better avoid them.
Withdrawals are caused through Intimidating, not listening, ignoring, gossiping, breaking promises, reluctance, inconsistencies, disinterest. These add up to big withdrawals fro the emotional bank accounts of those around you and generally cause division and lack of cohesion. Call them out every chance you get as there is no place for them in our community.
